Baroness Helena Morrissey DBE

Founder, 30% Club, Member, House of Lords

“I’m involved today with a number of British businesses that are truly innovative and ambitious — but we badly need more if our wonderful country and its people are to thrive. There will always be problems, setbacks and challenges in life, in business and in careers — but also opportunities, triumphs, and moments to seize. I am delighted to be joining forces with others who are determined to create and to celebrate aspiration and success, through Enterprise Britain.”

Baroness Helena Morrissey DBE has over three decades’ experience in the financial services sector. This includes 15 years as CEO of Newton Investment Management, during which time the firm’s assets under management grew from £20 billion to £50 billion. Baroness Morrissey started her career as a fixed income fund manager with asset management firm Schroders in New York.

Baroness Morrissey was Chair of the Investment Association from 2014 to 2017, the UK investment industry’s trade body, and was Lead Non-Executive Director at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (formerly the FCO) from July 2020 until June 2022. Today she chairs three financial services companies, including Fidelis Insurance, listed on the NYSE.

Baroness Morrissey is well known for her work on inclusion and diversity. In 2010, she founded the 30% Club, a business-led campaign for better gender-balanced boards and is now Chair of the Diversity Project, which works to create inclusive workplace cultures in the finance industry. She is a Trustee of the Lady Garden Foundation, a gynaecological cancer charity, and Chair of Eton College Endowment Committee.

Twice named by Bloomberg as one of the 50 most influential people in global finance, Baroness Morrissey’s influence has spread beyond finance and the City. She has been described by Fortune magazine as one of the world’s 50 Greatest Leaders and was the Financial Times Person of the Year in 2017. In 2020 she was created Baroness Morrissey, of Chapel Green in the Royal County of Berkshire.
